I’ve been following Depo on instagram for a while and felt very drawn to this place. And when I walked in there, I knew exactly why. It had that unpretentious, relaxed feel I like and not overwhelming, but keeping me interested, design. Welcoming place where I didn’t have to pretend I’m some fancy person that has any idea why someone would put 4 forks, 3 spoons and 4 knifes around the plate. I also liked the simplicity of the menu – just one page, that’s it – no need to spend 30 minutes going through a big book.
By the time our breakfast was meant to be placed on the table, waitress struggled finding enough space for it on the tiny table we had. She had to put some things away to be able to squeeze 2 plates, doupan 2 coffees doupan and cutlery on the tiny table.
Baguette + ham + brie Mon Père + mustard – doupan very basic breakfast that was disappointing from the very first bite. Baguette was gooey and we could only dream about beautiful crunchy crust. doupan Herb and mesclun salad + crostini + pancetta doupan + poached egg had the same issue – gooey baguette hidden in the salad, doupan that turned even more soggy from the dressing.
Even though the breakfast was a bit of a miss I still felt good in this hipster-paradise. Loved the design, quirkiness of the decorations around, the sexy gold wall that separates the kitchen and exposed brick.
What I don’t like is the neighbourhood – doupan I wouldn’t come there at night by bus or foot, I don’t trust West End at night. But I’ll be back for another breakfast or lunch, just to let Depo convince me there is more to this place than just the great design.
I m a graphic designer, photographer, avid traveller and wife. I like to try new things and there are no ideas too crazy for me. In 2010 my husband and I arrived in Australia (Brisbane) with our life compressed into 2 suitcases. Currently based in Melbourne.
